Description
Scenario:
You are recently recruited in a leading company as a professional engineer to create and manage an engineering project designed to identify a solution to an engineering need following the theme of digitalisation.
The theme of digitalisation will enable you to examine the broad ranging aspects of digitalisation in the context of the project(s) that you undertake from the standpoint of a professional engineer. For example, (a) evaluate the concept of the next industrial revolution to determine the impact on both manufacturers and the consumer, (b) explore digitalisation of energy services, (c) analyse case studies involving use of industrial digitalisation technologies (IDTs) in aeronautical sector, (d) explore how digitalisation of production increases the demand for engineers with high-tech manufacturing skills, (e) analyse integration of digital and non-digital workflows into production processes, and (f) investigate digitalisation aspects of developing a mechatronics system.
Based on your selected project, you are required to carry the tasks shown below. You also need to show the results and write a professional report about all these tasks. You report must be clear and the presentation must show professional standard.
LO1 Formulate and plan a project that will provide a solution to an identified engineering problem.
Task 1 Select an appropriate engineering based project, giving reasons for the selection.
Task 2 Create a project plan for the engineering project
Task 3 Undertake a feasibility study to justify project selection.
Task 4 Illustrate the effect of legislation and ethics on the decision making process in developing the project plan.
LO2 Conduct planned project activities to generate outcomes which provide a solution to the identified engineering problem
Task 5 Conduct project activities, recording progress against original project plan.
Task 6 Explore alternative methods to monitor and meet project milestones, justify selection of chosen method(s).
Task 7 Critically evaluate the success of the project plan making recommendations for improvements
LO3 Produce a project report analysing the outcomes of each of the project processes and stages
Task 8 Produce a project report covering each stage of the project and analysing project outcomes
Task 9 Use appropriate critical analysis and evaluation techniques to analyse project findings.
LO4 Present the project report drawing conclusions on the outcomes of the project
Task 10 Present the project report using appropriate media to an audience . For this task, you are required to carry out a 10-minutes presentation summarising your project and findings. The presentation should be included in your report submission
Task 11 Analyse own behaviours and performance during the project and suggest areas for improvement
Task 12 Critically analyse the project outcomes making recommendations for further development
